When HAFE began its mission to help the impoverished children of Haiti, it was faced with a few challenges. One such challenge was the choice of orphanages to sponsor. Inasmuch as HAFE wanted to work with the established orphanages, it became clear that transparency was an issue. A decision was made to break away from the dishonesty that seems to prevail when dealing with a third party. In April of 2015, HAFE proudly opened the doors of its boarding house for underprivileged girls in Carrefour, a region of Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti.
HAFE is legally caring for five girls, ranging from five to ten years of age. They hail from an area known as Fonds-Verrettes, a commune of the Croix-des-Bouquets arrondissement, near the capital of Haiti. These children were chosen based on their extremely poor living conditions and were severely malnourished, with no access to health care and proper schooling. Our girls are now enjoying a better quality of life; they are living in a beautiful house and are fed three meals a day. They are learning to read and write under the supervision of a headmaster and have access to more sanitary conditions.
